Introduction
Flat fasteners are widely used in various industries and applications. However, their performance in harsh environments, such as dusty or wet conditions, is a concern. Therefore, this research aims to investigate the dust and water resistance characteristics of flat fasteners.
Experimental Setup
The experiment was conducted using a custom-made testing apparatus. The apparatus consists of a dust chamber and a water spray chamber. The dust chamber was filled with fine dust particles, while the water spray chamber was equipped with a nozzle that sprayed water at a constant rate. The flat fasteners were placed in the apparatus and exposed to the dust and water for a predetermined time.
Results and Discussion
The results showed that the dust and water resistance of flat fasteners varied depending on the material and coating of the fasteners. Fasteners made of stainless steel and coated with zinc or nickel showed better resistance to dust and water compared to those made of carbon steel or without any coating. The results also indicated that the duration of exposure to dust and water had a significant impact on the performance of the fasteners. Longer exposure time resulted in a higher likelihood of failure.
