Research on UV Resistance and Color Fading Characteristics of U-shaped Handles

Introduction

U-shaped handles are commonly used in various outdoor products such as garden tools, patio furniture, and sports equipment. However, prolonged exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation can cause color fading and material degradation, which may affect the appearance and durability of U-shaped handles. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the UV resistance and color fading characteristics of U-shaped handles under different environmental conditions.

Methodology

1. Samples preparation: U-shaped handles made of different materials (e.g., plastic, metal, and wood) were selected and cut into equal sizes.

2. UV exposure: The samples were exposed to UV radiation for different durations (e.g., 100, 200, and 300 hours) using a UV chamber.

3. Color measurement: The color of the samples before and after UV exposure was measured using a spectrophotometer to determine the color fading characteristics.

4. Material analysis: The material properties of the samples before and after UV exposure were analyzed using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) to determine the UV resistance characteristics.

Results and Discussion

5. Color fading characteristics: The results showed that the color of all U-shaped handles faded after UV exposure, and the degree of fading varied depending on the material type and UV exposure duration. The plastic U-shaped handles had the highest color fading rate, while the wood U-shaped handles had the lowest color fading rate.

6. UV resistance characteristics: The SEM and FTIR analysis revealed that the plastic U-shaped handles had the most significant material degradation after UV exposure, while the metal and wood U-shaped handles had relatively stable material properties.

7. Environmental factors: The results also showed that environmental factors such as temperature and humidity could affect the UV resistance and color fading characteristics of U-shaped handles. Higher temperature and humidity levels could accelerate the material degradation and color fading rate.
